About
Mariana is an interaction design-researcher working as the Head of a MBA in Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Finlnad.
Previously, she has worked 8 years as designer-researcher at the Media Lab Helsinki. During this time she has been collaborating with museums and other cultural organizations and has actively published in her field of research. Her interests are in participatory design approaches and inclusive solutions that weave new
media into cultural sites. Lately she has been involved in Living Labs, open design, and social innovation discussions.
She has been working in Media Lab from 2001, collaborating in the following projects: 4G Design, Digital Facsimile of the Map of Mexico 1550, Äänijälki (Sound Trace), ImaNote, Keskustelukartta (Conversational Map) and Esineiden Salatut Elämät (The Secret Life of Objects). Sound Trace was done in collaboration with Ateneum Museum. Conversational Map was an interactive piece in Taidehalli (Art Museum in Helsinki) and The Secret Life of Objects is an on-going project in Design Museum, Helsinki. In all these projects there is active participation of people creating the content for the exhibition.
Her current interest concentrate in participatory practices in cultural sites, specially applying user-centred and design for all perspectives.
